Each year, the Alfa Romeo Owners club – USA (AROC-USA) hosts a convention at a different location across the USA. This year, from June 12-19 2016, the chosen location is Nashville, Tennessee.
These gatherings give owners of Alfa Romeos the opportunity to take a road-trip with their beloved automobiles and meet up with old friends for several fantastic days of social and car centric activities.
Participants from the Northeastern US are fortunate to have some of the country’s best scenic driving roads to enjoy en route to the Nashville convention. This website documents a four day scenic trip planned to take advantage of several of these roads. Much of the journey follows the historic Blue Ridge Parkway southward from Virginia to North Carolina. Noted for its scenic beauty, this “tarmac National Park” runs along the Blue Ridge and Great Smoky Mountains. The drive also includes North Carolina’s “Diamondback” (NC226A) featuring 190 curves packed into just 12 miles. The route then turns west towards Nashville via The Cherohala Skyway that winds up and over 5,400 foot mountains.
The drive will start on the morning of Saturday June 11th and arrive at the convention hotel on the evening of Tuesday June 14th in time for Wednesdays actual start of the convention. While it is possible to make this journey more directly via the dull, truck-filled interstates in fifteen hours or so, this relaxed trip is designed for driving enjoyment in our special cars. Each of the overnight stops has been chosen for their interesting local character after a not-too-long, fun day’s drive. Included along the route are historic points of interest, scenic views, county stores, enjoyable eateries, local craft brewpubs and coffee shops.
If you desire to travel via other routes or stay at alternate lodgings, feel free to tailor the trip to your liking. Participants are welcome to join or depart the trip at other points along the way. Those wishing to participate on this trip need simply to make contact and they will be put on a group mailing list in order to communicate to others making the trip.
NOTES: Participants are responsible to: 1) Make all their own hotel bookings. 2) Register for the convention. 3) Ensure their car is sufficiently up to the drive. 4) Print out, download or plot all maps and other items necessary from the Travel Essentials page.
